Abstrak : Background : Indonesian as an developing country has a rate of 41,1 per 1000 infant deaths per 1000 live birth (in 1997) which is projected to be 18 per 1000 live birth (in 2005)so it needs a strong effort in achieving those goals. An effort to reduce infant mortality is to prevent the occurrence of cerebral hemorrhage in newborns as a result of the lack vitamin K. this study aims to determine the factors associated with vitamin K injection in newborns in maternity clinics. This research methods is an analytical cross sectional, study was conducted in maternity clinics in Telukdalam District South Nias Regency in 2013. Samples : are all midwives who help childbirth. Results : showed that majority of respondents either knowledgeable as many 31 persons (66,0%) who had the means available as many 33 persons (53,2%) who received health care information sources from health officers as many 40 persons (64,5%) were educated D-III (Bachelor Degree) were 58 persons (93,5%) and that works >2 years were 36 persons (58,1%). Conclusion: based on research by knowledge, mean, information sources and years of service is closely related to vitamin K injection while education was not associated with vitamin K injection. Suggestion: expected to each midwife has a responsibility to further improve health service especially in the vitamin K injection.
